Freedom From Mass Consumerism
When we have an alternative to products that are mass produced and
often of low quality, then we are becoming an empowered consumer.
It often feels good to support smaller businesses that are run by entrepreneurs. They often produce products that are of high-quality because they are handmade. The price might reflect this, but that is a tradeoff these companies are willing to make in order to produce genuine high-quality handmade products.
Empowered Consumers:- Have choices about the quality and type of products that they buy;
- Factor in how the products were made;
- Consider how the cost of an item and the money involved is divided between producer-retailer-manufacturer (i.e. is this a fair trade product?);
- Think globally and act locally (By doing this you can have a positive effect on your local community by supporting small family business and still be aware of the impact of your choices on other people around the world.);
- Are aware that there is a choice.
